These gas logs can be used in a clean masonry firebox with the damper closed, or in a factory built firebox approved for use with vent-free logs.

Vent-free gas logs should be used as supplemental heaters, and not as a primary heat source.  In addition to the safety pilot control, these logs are equipped with an oxygen depletion sensor (ODS).  The ODS system actually shuts off the appliance if the oxygen level in the room should drop below a safe level.
